Zebra (Panda) Angel Fish

A striking young Angelfish with bold contrast, elegant fins and classic Amazon cichlid personality.

Quick Facts

  • Scientific name: Pterophyllum scalare
  • Max Size: approx. 8–12cm
  • Tank size: Minimum 150L
  • Difficulty: 🟢 Easy
  • Temperament: Semi-peaceful
  • Best kept: Pair or small group

Is this for you?

✔️ Good if:

  • You want a feature fish with bold markings.
  • You have a tall, planted freshwater aquarium.
  • You enjoy peaceful South American-style setups.
  • You want juveniles that can grow and develop in your care.

❌ Avoid if:

  • Your tank is small or shallow.
  • You keep fin-nipping fish such as Tiger Barbs.
  • You have tiny nano fish that may be eaten once the Angelfish matures.
  • You want a fish that stays small long term.

Why this livestock?

Zebra (Panda) Angelfish are a beautiful variety of Pterophyllum scalare, loved for their bold dark markings, elegant body shape and graceful swimming style.

At 4–5cm, these juveniles are a great size for growing out in a suitable aquarium. As they mature, their body height increases, their fins lengthen and their individual pattern becomes more defined.

They make excellent centrepiece fish for peaceful community aquariums, especially when paired with plants, driftwood and calm tank mates.

Common mistakes

  • Keeping Angelfish in tanks that are too small.
  • Mixing them with aggressive or fin-nipping species.
  • Forgetting they grow much taller than they appear as juveniles.
  • Keeping only two young fish and expecting a guaranteed pair.
  • Allowing water quality or temperature to fluctuate.

Care made simple

  • Temperature: 24–28°C
  • pH: 6.5–7.8
  • Diet: Omnivore – quality pellets, flakes, frozen foods and live foods
  • Water: Clean, stable freshwater with regular water changes
  • Setup: Tall aquarium with plants, driftwood and open swimming space

Pair with

  • Quality Tropical Fish Pellets
  • Frozen Bloodworms
  • Frozen Brine Shrimp
  • Amazon Sword Plants
  • Driftwood & Botanicals
NTA Insight:
If you want a natural pair, start with a group of 6 juveniles and allow them to pair off as they mature. Angelfish choose their own partners, and naturally formed pairs are usually more stable.

FAQ

How big will Zebra Angelfish grow?

They can reach around 10–15cm in body size and become much taller once their fins fully develop.

Are they suitable for beginners?

Yes. They are generally hardy and easy to keep when housed in a suitably sized aquarium with stable water quality.

Can they live with other fish?

Yes. They do well with peaceful community fish that are not small enough to be eaten and do not nip fins.

Why do livestock prices sometimes change?

Unlike manufactured products, fish and shrimp continue to grow and develop over time. Their value changes as they increase in size, develop colour, or become breeding pairs.

Our prices are based on the current size, quality and availability of each specimen. While pricing often remains stable for around 3–4 months, it may be updated at any time to reflect these changes.

We always aim to offer healthy, high-quality livestock at fair and competitive prices.

Will I receive the exact fish pictured?

No. Photos are representative only. Colour, pattern and markings may vary between individual fish.

FANTASTIC PAD HOLDER
Size: 28'' X 34'', Size: 28'' X 34''
Amazon Basics Dog Training Pad Holder 28X34. I'll start out by saying I wasn't too sure about it, when I got it. It is awkward to put the pads in by yourself if your short as on each end the sides have to come up together and it’s big, however, I've done it five times alone now and it’s doable. There was no smell, it arrived in perfect condition. My husband was home and we set it up together, I walked into the bathroom to get a soiled pad I had keep to put on it for her to know what to do came back and she had already used it and she’s only four months old. I love it love it love it, it’s not too big, but it’s her home too, and we have it in the living room where we spend a lot of time as we’re retired. When she gets a little older, we will probably move it to another room, but for now it’s staying there. After she urinates, it goes down to a very pale yellow color I have been able to use one pad for all day, however, she does have a pad in a under bed tote in our master bathroom. We’ve had a few guests over and if she hadn’t used it they didn’t even know what it was. I highly recommend it. I have been using pads in an under the bed tote for over 10 years and this is a welcome audition. You won’t be sorry if you have little ones that go in the house.

Very easy to use and clean
Size: 22'' X 22''
Saved my pad training with my puppy. It's firm and easy to clean. It holds the pads well for the most part, but sometimes my dog gets a little crazy and it comes out, but I don't think it could be better. Still give a 5-star!

Don’t buy
Size: 28'' X 34''
Mine arrived broken and scratched I think I received one that someone had returned. It also doesn’t hold pads that well my 4 lb teacup Yorkie is able to pull the pad off of the pad holder without even ripping the pad.

Excellent!
Size: 22'' X 22''
Highly recommend this pad holder. Does an excellent job keeping the pad secure and in place. No more shredded pads since. Bonus: no leaks on the floor. It’s so practical and so helpful.
